Indian Telecom giant Bharati Airtel will soon permanently discontinue its music streaming service Wynk as per reports. An Airtel spokesperson confirmed the same saying “Airtel is planning to close Wynk Music in the next couple of months. It will absorb all the employees into the company.”
While still in use, the company will implement a total shutdown of its services very soon while all the employees working for Wynk will automatically become a part of Airtel. While speaking to PTI, the spokesperson added, “We can confirm that we will sunset Wynk Music and all Wynk Music employees will be absorbed within the Airtel ecosystem.”
This comes after Airtel announced a strategic partnership with Apple for music and video streaming, where iPhone users will receive special offers for Apple Music. Speaking on the same, the spokesperson said, “Airtel users will have access to Apple Music. Additionally, Wynk Premium users will receive exclusive offers from Airtel for Apple.”
The deal also extends to Apple TV+ which will integrate with Airtel’s video streaming platform Xstream.
Wynk launched in 2014 and garnered a massive user base crossing the 100 million mark in its subscriber count.
