Jurgen Westermeier Named Airbus President and Managing Director for India and South Asia

Jurgen Westermeier has been appointed President and Managing Director of Airbus for India and South Asia, effective 1 September, as the aerospace leader reinforces its strategic commitment to the region.

Currently Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer at Airbus, the 53-year-old will succeed Remi Maillard, who is set to take on the role of Executive Vice-President Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology.

India continues to be a priority market for Airbus, with a robust presence spanning commercial aviation and defence. Westermeier’s appointment signals the company’s intent to further deepen its regional engagement and industrial footprint.

“In his new role, Jurgen will spearhead Airbus’ business in India and South Asia, across Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space, and Helicopters. He will be responsible for commercial aircraft sales and for expanding the company’s footprint in the region, which includes services, engineering, digital, innovation and training.

Jurgen will also help advance Airbus’ commitment to ‘Make in India’ by supporting the company’s campaigns aligned to this vision,” Airbus announced in a statement.

Since joining Airbus in 2020 as Chief Procurement Officer, Westermeier has led procurement activities across all business divisions. His tenure has been marked by the development of advanced procurement tools and the cultivation of strong supplier partnerships globally.

Westermeier holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, and began his professional career with BMW in 1998. His extensive experience across sectors is expected to play a pivotal role in driving Airbus’ growth and innovation in India and South Asia.
