Takashi Nakajima Takes Over as President & CEO of Honda Cars India

In a significant move, Japanese automotive giant Honda announced the appointment of Takashi Nakajima as the new President & CEO of Honda Cars India, effective April 1, 2025. This decision follows the annual management reshuffle by Honda Motor Co. Ltd.

Nakajima will succeed Takuya Tsumura, who is set to return to Honda’s headquarters in Japan after a successful tenure in India. Tsumura’s time in the Indian market has been marked by numerous achievements, including enhancing Honda’s premium brand positioning and contributing significantly to the company’s profitable growth.

Nakajima, who has been serving as the President of Honda Motor Russia since 2021, brings with him a wealth of experience spanning over three decades with Honda. He joined the company in 1994 and has since held a variety of key roles across several international markets, including Japan, China, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Russia. His expertise spans business planning, product development, marketing, and sales promotion, particularly within Honda’s automobile sector.

During his latest assignment in Russia, Nakajima also oversaw product planning, marketing, and corporate communication for Honda’s operations in the domestic Japanese market, further strengthening his global perspective.

Reflecting on Tsumura’s successful tenure, Honda praised his leadership in India, stating that he was instrumental in fortifying the company’s premium image, driving customer-centric solutions, and promoting profitable growth. Under Tsumura’s leadership, Honda Cars India introduced several premium models, including the City e:HEV, India’s first mainstream hybrid vehicle, and the new global SUV Elevate. His efforts also laid the groundwork for the company’s first battery electric vehicle launch in India.

Additionally, Tsumura played a pivotal role in expanding Honda Cars India’s export operations, overseeing the commencement of the made-in-India Elevate’s export to Japan.

With Nakajima’s appointment, Honda looks forward to continued success in India, building on the foundation established by his predecessor and further strengthening the company’s position in the Indian automotive market.
