The Scope of the Report

According to Freshworks Global AI Workplace Report, 7,000 professionals were surveyed from various sectors which included HR, IT, customer services and support, finance and accounting, sales, marketing, and legal. The data emphasises the central role AI portrays in transforming workplace efficiency and highlighting regional disparities in AI adoption and expertise.

Privacy and Training: The Dual Imperatives

Despite AI being at the forefront of workplace efficiency, it also brings with it reasonable concerns. The privacy issues associated with AI are tantamount to the enthusiasm for its usage.

54% of Indian respondents admit to using free versions of AI tools like ChatGPT, raising significant data security issues. Globally, 30% of employees express apprehension about the sources of AI data, pointing to potential risks of sensitive information being inadvertently exposed and used to train AI models for other companies.

Additionally, the demand for AI expertise is notably higher in India and the Middle East, where 70% of new hires are expected to have some proficiency with AI. This contrasts sharply with the United States (33%) and the United Kingdom (32%), where the demand for AI specialists is considerably lower.

The Global AI Landscape

AI is a central topic in boardrooms worldwide, with 46% of employees globally asserting that those not embracing AI are at risk of falling behind. Sandie Overtveld, Freshworks' Senior Vice President & General Manager, APJ & MEA, commented on the study, stating, "This study presents a fascinating overview of AI adoption globally. We're particularly impressed by the high levels of usage and expertise in India and the Middle East." He continued, “However, privacy issues are a concern to many. In order to foster trust and fully realise the advantages of this technology, businesses must place a high priority on data protection and ethical AI practices."

Investment and ROI

Investment in AI is on the rise, particularly in India and the Middle East, where 57% of managers and senior employees report plans to increase spending on AI-powered software in 2023. A majority of these leaders believe that AI can significantly impact businesses within two years, with 56% noting a superior return on investment for AI compared to other software solutions.

Trust in AI

India stands out for its high level of trust in AI tools, with 86% of employees confident in AI's ability to enhance their workflow. Adoption rates in India also surpass the global average, with 75% of leaders integrating AI into their operations. Nevertheless, there is a strong call for stringent company policies regarding AI, with 68% of employees advocating for mandatory human review of AI outputs to bolster trust.

India's proactive stance on AI adoption, coupled with high levels of comfort and investment, positions it as a global leader in the AI landscape. The country's commitment to harnessing AI's potential promises substantial benefits, setting a benchmark for other regions to follow.
