The company has doubled its workforce in India, recognising the significant contributions of its Indian innovation teams to product development. RingCentral is actively recruiting top engineering talent in India across various cutting-edge fields, including AI/ML, cloud computing, mobile app development, and DevOps. This strategic focus on attracting and nurturing Indian talent is driven by the company's commitment to driving innovation in its communication solutions. In a McKinsey study, companies with diverse executive teams were found to be 25% more likely to achieve above-average profitability. From your perspective, how does RingCentral’s commitment to DE&I shape business outcomes while including innovation and company culture? Could you share specific initiatives that have had the most meaningful impact, especially in fostering inclusion and equity at all levels of the organisation?

Sathesh: RingCentral recognises diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) as key drivers of business success. Mirroring McKinsey's findings on profitability and diverse leadership, our DE&I commitment fuels innovation by broadening perspectives and strengthens our culture by fostering a sense of belonging. This translates to improved market reach and stronger financial performance. We believe diverse teams generate more creative solutions and better anticipate the evolving needs of our diverse customer base. A strong DE&I focus also boosts employee morale, engagement, and retention, leading to increased productivity and collaboration.

Key initiatives driving impact include our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which influence company policy and foster inclusion, and robust mentorship and sponsorship programs that support the career development of underrepresented talent. We also invest in inclusive leadership training, equipping leaders to build equitable and high-performing teams. Finally, our commitment to DE&I metrics and accountability ensures we track progress and achieve tangible impact. We continuously evolve our DE&I strategy, recognising its vital role in unlocking employee potential and driving sustainable growth.

Your organisation has prioritised leadership hiring and launched campus connect programs in India. How have these initiatives helped RingCentral grow, and what future plans do you have for engaging with emerging talent in the country?

RingCentral is deeply committed to investing in India's vibrant tech talent. Our growing presence, now over 400 strong, underscores this commitment. We have prioritised two key initiatives: leadership hiring, and campus connect programs, both of which are fueling our growth in the region.

Our campus connect programs are another cornerstone of our talent strategy. We are actively engaging with numerous reputed educational institutions across India, offering aspiring interns hands-on experience and valuable on-the-job training. This not only equips them with practical skills but also provides a direct pipeline for future full-time roles within RingCentral and beyond. It is a win-win situation: students gain real-world experience, and we cultivate a pool of skilled and motivated future employees.

We are also excited to expand our engagement with emerging talent in India. We will be partnering with even more institutions, developing internship programs in key areas, and creating mentorship opportunities to connect junior employees with experienced leaders. We are also committed to ongoing investment in skill development initiatives, ensuring our team remains at the cutting edge of the industry. We are proud to be part of this growth story and look forward to continuing to contribute to its success.

How do you balance rapid workforce growth with maintaining a culture of innovation at RingCentral? What are some practices you’ve implemented to keep your teams inspired and creative?

At RingCentral, we understand that rapid growth can sometimes challenge a company's culture. Maintaining our innovative spirit while scaling our workforce, particularly in a dynamic market like India, is a top priority. We approach this with a multi-pronged strategy:

  • Prioritising Cultural Integration from the Start: We don't just hire for skills; we hire for cultural fit. Throughout the interview process, we assess candidates' alignment with our core values, which emphasises innovation, collaboration, and customer centricity. This ensures that new hires, regardless of their level, contribute to a cohesive and innovative environment.
  • Empowering Through Decentralised Decision-Making: We believe that innovation thrives in an environment where individuals feel empowered. We encourage decentralized decision-making, giving teams the autonomy to own their projects and explore creative solutions. This fosters a sense of ownership and encourages experimentation.
  • Nurturing Innovation and Product mindset: We organise regular hackathon events, technical talks, product fairs all of which promote knowledge sharing and encourage innovation. Top ideas from these initiatives are recognised and added to the product roadmap. Our teams follow the best engineering practices as part of the product development lifecycle, we continuously learn to improve our processes.
  • Fostering a Culture of Open Communication and Collaboration: We maintain open communication channels across all levels of the organisation. Regular town halls, team meetings, and feedback sessions ensure that everyone feels heard and connected to the company's vision. We also utilise collaborative platforms that facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-functional teamwork, sparking new ideas and perspectives.
  • Investing in Continuous Learning and Development: We provide ample opportunities for professional development, including training programs, workshops, and mentorship initiatives. This empowers our employees to stay ahead of the curve, explore new technologies, and contribute to a culture of continuous innovation. We also encourage "intrapreneurship," allowing employees to pitch and develop their own innovative ideas within the company.
  • Celebrating Success and Recognising Contributions: We believe in celebrating both big and small wins. Recognising individual and team accomplishments reinforces our culture of innovation and motivates employees to continue pushing boundaries. This can range from company-wide announcements to smaller team celebrations, ensuring that contributions are valued and appreciated.

By implementing these practices, we aim to create a dynamic and inspiring work environment where every employee, regardless of their tenure or location, feels empowered to contribute to RingCentral's innovative spirit. We believe this approach is crucial for sustaining our growth and maintaining our competitive edge in the market.
