At a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the modern workplace, a new report from Atlassian sheds light on how AI adoption can improve both the speed and quality of work. The ‘State of Teams 2025’ report, released today, surveyed 12,000 knowledge workers from six regions, including India, the US, Australia, France, Germany, and the UK. It reveals that an impressive 92% of Indian professionals are confident that AI will significantly enhance the performance of their teams.
The findings highlight not only the growing enthusiasm for AI but also the pressing need for better information management within teams. According to the research, globally, an alarming 27% of the workweek is wasted each year as employees struggle to find the necessary information. This challenge is particularly pronounced in India, where 61% of respondents report that teams often unknowingly duplicate efforts due to ineffective communication and knowledge sharing.
The study, which involved 200 executives from Fortune 500 companies, underscores a widespread concern: the inability to access or share critical information swiftly remains the primary barrier to increasing work efficiency. As noted by 72% of Indian respondents, accessing information often requires direct communication, whether through meetings or by asking colleagues, creating unnecessary delays and inefficiencies. The report also reveals that 90% of respondents feel their ability to contribute to business success would be improved if organisational goals were better communicated and clearer.
Key Findings from India:
- 87% of Indian professionals believe AI is helping them become more effective teammates.
- 91% of knowledge workers feel there is potential for improved AI use to discover and manage information more effectively.
- 51% of Indian employees believe that AI adoption across teams could lead to faster work execution.
- Indian teams spend over 17 hours per week searching for information, adding to the frustration of wasted time.
- 70% of respondents agree that various functions within their companies (such as marketing, sales, engineering, and product) often operate in silos, hindering collaboration.
Dr. Molly Sands, Head of the Teamwork Lab at Atlassian, explained, “Team silos hinder collaboration, create inefficiencies, and lose opportunities. Without alignment, achieving objectives and adapting to market changes becomes difficult. To remain competitive, companies need to prioritise transparency and collaboration. Connecting information and integrating AI are essential: organised information allows AI to reveal key insights, enabling teams to find what they need at the right time. The future of work is here, but to fully exploit AI, businesses must invest in the tools and training needed to unlock productivity, collaboration, and innovation.”

In response to these challenges, Atlassian advocates a comprehensive approach to transforming team dynamics. This strategy follows Atlassian's "System of Work" philosophy and is centred around three key pillars:
- Align work to goals: Establish focus by defining a set of 3-5 team goals with clear success metrics. Ensure these goals are easily accessible for AI integration and reviewed regularly.
- Plan and track work together: Start every project with a shared understanding, define tasks, dependencies, and assign ownership. Regular progress reviews will ensure that teams stay on course.
- Unleash collective knowledge: Encourage asynchronous information sharing and replace meetings with high-quality, easily scannable updates. Teams can also leverage AI tools to surface valuable insights and automate tasks.
By embracing this strategy, Atlassian believes businesses can better harness AI’s potential to drive innovation, productivity, and collaboration across teams.
