The reality of being a leader is that sometimes tough decisions need to be made during crises. However, this doesn’t mean that leaders should act with a stern, iron-fisted approach to leadership and management. Today, people want a different type of leader, a leader who doesn’t tell his/her subordinates to ‘pull up their socks’, instead they want a leader who is empathy-led and purposeful.
Times are tough and the virus’s vast fallout demands a kinder, gentler approach. We’ll get through this together and emerge stronger. An empathetic leader’s optimism, positive outlook, and upbeat disposition will help others to believe it, too.
