Amazon India's Head and Country Manager has stepped down from his current role, a spokesperson from the e-commerce giant has confirmed. He will continue serving the company until October this year and ensure a smooth transition.
He joined the company as Vice President in 2016 and was promoted to his present position in 2020. A statement released by the company said, “Manish's leadership over the last eight years has been instrumental in delivering for customers and sellers, making Amazon.in the preferred marketplace in India.”
A successor for Tiwary is yet to be announced
Amazon India is facing high-stakes competition from rivals and adversaries like Flipkart, Meesho and quick commerce names like Swiggy Instamart, Zomato, Dunzo and Zepto who are steadily making better inroads into smaller cities and towns than the former as reported by TechCrunch.
The Statement further stated, "We are excited by the momentum and business results we have already achieved, and we are even more optimistic about the significant opportunities ahead to innovate on behalf of our customers and digitally transform lives and livelihoods".
Amit Agarwal, SVP, India and Emerging Markets, is expected to be intensely involved with Amazon India, guiding a competent team of leaders to capitalise on this opportunity.
Amazon had pledged massive investment plans for India. On August 2023, Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy met PM Narendra Modi an additional investment of $15 billion bringing the total to $26 billion.
