IndiGo Global Sales Chief Vinay Malhotra Resigns Amidst Leadership Reshuffle

In the midst of significant leadership realignments at India’s largest carrier, IndiGo has confirmed the resignation of its Head of Global Sales, Vinay Malhotra, who will depart the airline at the close of business on 3 July.

The development was disclosed in a regulatory filing on Monday, which stated that Malhotra had chosen to step down to explore professional opportunities beyond the airline. A key member of IndiGo’s senior leadership cadre, his departure adds to a series of high-level changes that have reshaped the airline’s executive structure in recent months.

"After careful reflection on my career and my next professional and personal phase, and further to our discussions, I have decided to step down from the position of Head of Global Sales," Malhotra said in his resignation letter addressed to IndiGo Managing Director Rahul Bhatia.

The filing noted that Malhotra had formally tendered his resignation to pursue opportunities outside the company.

His exit comes against the backdrop of notable appointments and exits at the airline. On 31 March, IndiGo announced the appointment of William Walsh, a pilot and the current head of the global airline body International Air Transport Association, as its next Chief Executive Officer.

This announcement followed closely on the unexpected departure of former CEO Pieter Elbers, which occurred less than three weeks after extensive operational disruptions affected the airline in December last year.

Earlier, on 23 March, IndiGo had also appointed Aloke Singh, formerly Managing Director of Air India Express, as its Chief Strategy Officer.

The sequence of leadership changes underscores a period of strategic transition for the carrier as it navigates operational recovery and prepares for its next phase of growth.
