Amitabh Kant, former Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog and India’s former G20 Sherpa, has been appointed as an Independent Director on the Board of HCL Technologies. The appointment, effective immediately, will run for a term of five years until 7 September 2030, the company confirmed in an exchange filing.
Aged 69, Kant’s career in public service spans several decades. As India’s G20 Sherpa during the 2022–2023 Presidency, he was instrumental in achieving the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, which galvanised global consensus on critical issues.

Kant’s public service career includes senior leadership roles in the Government of India. He served as CEO of NITI Aayog, Secretary of the Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), CEO of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), and Secretary of Tourism in Kerala.
During his tenure in Kerala, he conceptualised the celebrated ‘God’s Own Country’ campaign, reviving local culture and cuisine while boosting the state’s global tourism profile. This initiative later paved the way for the renowned ‘Incredible India’ campaign, which he spearheaded as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism.
