A staggering 62% of employees in India are experiencing high levels of work-related stress, according to the recent report on employee wellbeing at work by YourDost. The study, which surveyed over 5,000 employees across IT, manufacturing, transport, tech, media, legal, and consulting, reveals that stress spans all age groups. But it hits employees in their 20s and 30s the hardest, driven by career uncertainty, poor work-life balance, and ever-changing workplace expectations.

What is Causing All the Stress?

The report highlights key reasons why employees are feeling the heat:

  • Lack of Recognition:

    3 in 10 employees feel their efforts go unnoticed, leading to disengagement and low morale.

  • Career Growth Worries:

    37% are anxious about where their careers are headed, highlighting the need for upskilling, better mentorship, and clear growth paths.

 

Women Carrying the Weight: 74% Report Higher Stress Levels Than Men

Workplace stress affects everyone, but it is not felt equally. 74% of women report feeling stressed, compared to 57% of men. Women often face added pressure from juggling home responsibilities, facing bias, and striving to prove themselves in male-dominated environments. The message is clear: organisations must prioritise inclusive and gender-sensitive wellness policies.
