Rohan Mirchandani, Epigamia Co-Founder, Dies Suddenly at 42

The untimely passing of Rohan Mirchandani, the visionary co-founder of Epigamia, has left the Indian entrepreneurial world in deep sorrow. Mirchandani, who was only 42 years old, succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrest on December 21, 2024, as confirmed by his company. His death marks a heartbreaking loss for not only his family but also the vibrant community he helped build within the food industry.

Mirchandani's journey began with his education at the prestigious Wharton School and NYU Stern School of Business, which paved the way for his ambitious entrepreneurial career. In 2013, he co-founded Drums Food International, the parent company of Epigamia. Through this brand, he revolutionised the yoghurt market in India by introducing flavoured Greek yoghurt to the country's retail shelves—a concept previously unheard of. What began as a niche product soon became a popular health-focused snack, underpinned by the brand's commitment to quality and innovation.

Epigamia quickly expanded its product portfolio, moving beyond Greek yoghurt to offer a variety of dairy and plant-based alternatives. From artisanal curd to smoothies, milkshakes, and lactose-free curd, the brand epitomised a new era of health-conscious living. Mirchandani's relentless drive and creativity made Epigamia a household name and a symbol of healthful indulgence in India.

Despite this tragic loss, the leadership at Epigamia remains resolute in continuing Mirchandani’s legacy. Ankur Goel, the company’s COO and founding member, alongside Uday Thakker, co-founder and director, will now lead the day-to-day operations, with the full backing of the board, including Mirchandani’s family. "All of us at Epigamia family will deeply mourn this loss. Rohan was our mentor, friend and leader. We remain steadfast in our determination to carry forward his dream with strength and vigour. Rohan's vision and values will continue to guide us as we work together to honour the foundation he built and ensure that his dream continues to flourish," Goel and Thakker expressed in a heartfelt statement.

The entrepreneurial community has also expressed its profound grief. Harsh Mariwala, Chairman of Marico, noted that Mirchandani's passing was a significant loss. "We will work closely with the leadership of the company to take Rohan's legacy to greater heights," said the Epigamia board.

Rohan Mirchandani's passing leaves a void in the industry, but his vision will continue to inspire and shape the future of food innovation in India for years to come.
