Hindustan Zinc Pledges to Achieve 30% Female Workforce Representation by 2030

In a groundbreaking move to strengthen its commitment to gender diversity, Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), a Vedanta Group subsidiary, announced its ambitious goal of achieving 30% female representation in its workforce by 2030. Currently, the company boasts a workforce that includes more than 25% women, setting a clear trajectory towards increased inclusivity within the traditionally male-dominated sectors of metals, mining, and heavy engineering.

This declaration is a testament to Hindustan Zinc's dedication to promoting gender parity in industries often characterised by their lack of diversity. In a statement, the company proudly highlighted its position as a pioneer, noting that it is home to India's first female underground mine managers and has established the nation's first and second all-women underground mine rescue teams.

"Our vision is ambitious yet clear - to significantly accelerate this momentum and achieve 30 per cent diversity within the next five years. The growing number of women choosing careers in mining and metallurgy is a testament to this shift — one fuelled by our industry-first, people-centric policies and a wealth of opportunities designed for holistic professional growth," said Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc.

Hindustan Zinc, renowned for its leading role in the global metals industry, is the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer and the third-largest producer of silver. The company’s strategic focus on gender diversity underscores its broader commitment to sustainable growth and inclusive corporate practices in the mining sector.
