Thakur has over 26 years of experience in Human Resources and has worked across industries and in top companies such as Microsoft, GE, and Eicher. Before this, Rohit was the Head of HR for Accenture. He is a Bachelor in Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi and an alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur.

IIMs Seek Exemption from Quota in Teaching Positions

All 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have written to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to seek exemption from the prospect of reservation for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) applying for teaching positions. This request comes in response to the ministry’s intimation to premier business schools to offer quota in faculty positions for SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates. However, the B-schools have made this request claiming that their existing recruitment process is fair and provides equal opportunities to all. Former students of the B-schools and Ambedkarites have urged the government to reject the IIMs’ request.

PayPal India Announces the Adoption Assistance Program

PayPal has recently announced a new adoption assistance program. Under the new policy, the company will provide financial support of up to ₹1 lakh per adoption for the adoptive parents. This financial support will also cover reimbursement of adoption expenses such as CARA registration, child placement, foster care and establishment of legal guardianship. Besides this, the company will also offer paid adoption leave of 16 weeks for female employees and 2 weeks for male employees. Employees taking an adoption leave would be required to give two months prior notice to his/her manager and the HR Department. The move is part of PayPal’s initiative to ensure a work-life balance for employees. The company is also offering counselling assistance or tips on parenting through PayPal’s Employee Assistance Program.

52% Employees Say Recruiters Prefer Experienced Professionals over the Millennials: Survey

In a recent survey called ‘Hiring Sentiments 2020’, about 41% of the employees said that the Year 2020 will be positive on the hiring front. In the report, 52% of respondents said that recruiters will prefer experienced professionals over the millennials. Another 42% of respondents said that freshers will be preferred by the recruiters. With upskilling becoming the key requirement to stay relevant at work floors, about 51% of respondents said that they will learn things related to a new work domain in the Year 2020. Another 31% of respondents said that they will/are already taking specialised training in their domain to stay ahead of their peers. The research brings to light the fact that employees are bracing themselves to cope with the uncertain business scenario.

EPF and MP Act Employee Threshold Remains Unchanged: Government

Union Ministry of Labour and Employment has denied the reports of small businesses with employee strength of 10 or more being eligible for cover under the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions (EPF and MP) Act. Currently, only organisations with 20 employees or more can apply for the EPF.

The official statement says, “Ministry of Labour and Employment denies the media reports published in some newspapers that the applicability threshold has been brought down from present establishment with 20 or more employees to 10 or more employees for the purpose of application of Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1952 (EPF & MP Act).”
