Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Announces Increased Ex-Gratia for Construction Workers Following Convention

The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi earlier this week declared a a hike in the ex-gratia amount for the construction workers in the case of an accident. The amount which was earlier ₹4 lakh has been increased to ₹6 lakh. 

The announcement came after the Honourable CM visited a constructor workers’ convention. The conversations inspired the government to raise the amount to ₹6 lakh. In addition to this, he said that the state government has decided to increase the ex-gratia amount for a construction worker’s natural death during their employment. The amount which was earlier ₹2 lakh has been increased to ₹3 lakh. 

Speaking as the incumbent head of a people’s government, Majhi said that the decision for the hike was the state government’s own and has not by any means coaxed by petition or representation from construction workers. He said, "The decision to hike the ex-gratia amount was taken at the meeting itself. The government feels the situation of the people. Our government is committed for the development of construction workers (sic)," as reported by the ETHR World.
