India takes pride in Prafulla Dhariwal's achievement as he becomes the mastermind behind the creation of GPT-4o.
OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, extolled the pivotal role played by Indian prodigy Prafulla Dhariwal in the development of the company’s latest flagship AI model, GPT-4o.
GPT-4o, signifying 'Omni', debuted recently during OpenAI's Spring Update online event, with Dhariwal leading the project as part of the Omni team.
Dhariwal, known for his visionary leadership, spearheaded the creation of GPT-4o, OpenAI's ‘first fully multimodal model’.
Altman acknowledged Dhariwal's significant contributions, noting that GPT-4o's success was largely attributable to Dhariwal's vision and dedication.

Dhariwal's journey is marked by remarkable achievements. He received the National Talent Search Scholarship from the Indian government in 2009 and won gold medals at prestigious international competitions, including the International Astronomy Olympiad, the International Mathematical Olympiad and the International Physics Olympiad.
Academically, Dhariwal excelled, achieving outstanding scores in his Class XII exams and entrance tests, including the Maharashtra Technical Common Entrance Test (MT-CET) and the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE-Mains). In 2013, he was honoured with the Abasaheb Naravane Memorial Prize.
Dhariwal graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a perfect GPA in Computer Science (Mathematics). He gained valuable experience through internships at companies like Pinterest and the DE Shaw Group, while also contributing to research at MIT.
Joining OpenAI as a research intern in 2016, Dhariwal rapidly ascended to the role of research scientist, co-creating groundbreaking AI models such as GPT-3, DALL-E 2, Jukebox and Glow.
