India’s leading airline, IndiGo, has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing 1,000 women pilots within its workforce, becoming the first and only airline in the country to reach this landmark.
Women pilots now account for 17.5 per cent of IndiGo’s total pilot strength — a figure that stands at more than three times the global industry average. The development reflects the airline’s sustained commitment to nurturing a diverse and inclusive workplace that mirrors the ambitions of a new generation of women entering aviation in India.
Across the organisation, women constitute more than 45 per cent of the total workforce. Their presence spans multiple operational and leadership functions: women make up over 30 per cent of airport operations staff, nearly 25 per cent of the Operations Control Centre workforce, more than 20 per cent in finance, and over 15 per cent within digital teams. Representation in leadership roles has also grown steadily, with women occupying more than 23 per cent of senior positions.
Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, IndiGo, said:
"On International Women’s Day, we are proud to announce that IndiGo now has over 1,000 women pilots, among the highest in the world. This milestone truly reflects the spirit of Girl Power at IndiGo. As we continue to give wings to the nation, we remain committed to creating more opportunities for talented women to soar and shape the future of aviation."

Strengthening Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
As an equal opportunity employer, IndiGo has consistently emphasised diversity, equity and inclusion through a series of initiatives operating under the EMBRACE framework — an acronym representing Equity, Multiculturalism, Belonging, Respect, Accessibility, Community and Empowerment. The programme incorporates several initiatives, including the flagship “Girl Power” movement.
The airline recognises the value of a diverse workforce, actively promoting gender equality, supporting the strengths of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), and fostering a workplace environment that welcomes individuals from varied communities and backgrounds.
IndiGo’s Girl Power initiatives extend beyond recruitment, encompassing leadership development, professional growth opportunities, community-building efforts and flexible work arrangements. Programmes such as Take-Off 2.0 enable women to re-enter the workforce after career breaks, while the 6E Girl Power Community provides a dedicated peer network aimed at empowering women across all professional roles within the organisation.
Through progressive hiring policies, learning and development programmes, and employee-focused initiatives, IndiGo continues to pursue a balanced and forward-looking approach to workplace diversity. With the achievement of this milestone, the airline further reinforces its reputation as an industry pioneer committed to expanding opportunities for women across aviation and leadership roles.
